The holiday season is a time for the whole world to look merry and bright with magic. Milledgeville is no exception. Our small town is home to some of the most beautiful properties in the world and they look even better when they deck their halls for the holidays. Everyone loves decorations and these homes have some of the best. Here’s our list of the best places in Milledgeville, Georgia to get your fill of history and holiday cheer.

ROSE HILL

Holidays at Rose Hill

Rose Hill at Lockerly Arboretum is one of the most beautiful places in the city of Milledgeville. The holiday season only emphasizes it!  Rose Hill will be decorated for the holidays using fresh greenery from Lockerly Arboretum. The decorations will be up December 9th – 20th. Take a self-guided tour of the property to take in the sights and fresh smells of the season.


GEORGIA’S OLD GOVERNOR’S MANSION

Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion is giving visitors a chance to see history in a new light this holiday season. The Mansion is decorated from top to bottom in Christmas cheer and you can experience it all. Georgia’s Old Governor’s Mansion will be hosting its renowned Candlelight Tours for their annual Christmas at the Mansion event. Spectacular anytime of the year, the Mansion is transformed during the Candlelight Tours with seasonal decor, twinkling lights and the sound of live music drifting through the halls. The candlelit tours take place at 6 and 7 pm on December 7th, 14th, and 17th. Christmas decorations will be up at the Mansion November 24th – December 22nd so make sure you stop by for some of the most beautiful decorations in town!


SOUTHSIDE HOLIDAY TOUR

Holidays at Rose Hill

This year, you will have to chance to experience some of Milledgeville most beautiful homes that are rarely seen by the public.  On December 7th, tour six historic Milledgeville sites adorned in decorations and holiday cheer on the Southside Holiday Tour. You will start your journey with light refreshments at Georgia’s Old Capital Heritage Center at The Depot. From there, you will board Milly the trolley and continue on to five other historic properties. This tour includes exclusive access to Lockerly Arboretum’s Rose Hill, the Chapel of All Faiths at Central State Hospital, Rockwell House, Rutherford-Smith-Barman House, and The Willis House. Feel free to explore the properties at your leisure as the trolley will be running on a continuous loop. Rose Hill, Rockwell House, and The Willis House will all have light refreshments and the Chapel of All Faiths will have a choir performing for your entertainment. Tickets for this holiday event are limited and are $30 per person. ANTEBELLUM INN

Antebellum Inn Christmas

Located at 200 North Columbia Street, this c. 1890 home is spectacularly decorated during the holidays. You can even stay in the middle of all the magic as this property is a Bed & Breakfast. Even if you’re not staying in the inn, take a stroll on North Columbia and see just how gorgeous it is. The twinkling lights and decorations of red and green are sure to please.


MARLOR HOUSE

Marlor House ChristmasMarlor House, located on North Wayne Street, is one of Milledgeville’s most interesting properties. The former home, now Milledgeville Allied Arts, was designed by John Marlor, a famous architect from England who even created a style he called “Milledgeville Federal”. You can see the building’s natural beauty every day of the year here in Milledgeville, but the holidays add a special touch. The property gets decorated in the style of the season and it is truly a can’t-miss sight.
